Applications
As it is fire resistant HYDROTHERM 46 is a good alternative to mineral oil in any situation where the hydraulic fluids can burn as the result of a heat source and there is a safety risk for operating personnel.
It is suitable, for example, for: high-pressure hydraulic forging and die casting machines, automatic plastic injection moulding machines, forging presses and hydraulic hammers, hydraulic conveyors and systems for the transport and/or handling of hot metal parts as well as transport systems in the mining industry. Mineral based hydraulic fluids have an auto-ignition temperature of around 350 °C, which means that above this limit said oils can ignite without needing to be exposed to a flame. Another source of greater danger is the propagation of fire via the oil; when mineral oils burn: even if the ignition source is removed, the fire will not be stopped.
All these dangers can be avoided by using HYDROTHERM 46 fire resistant hydraulic fluid. In cases such as those described above, the approx. 45% water content of the fluid forms a protective vapour layer around the flame to effectively prevent the fire from spreading.
