Paquita Ruiz won her rivals in the first race of the Yamaha R6 Cup played in the Circuit of Jerez-Angel Nieto
YAMAHA R6 Cup - Circuito De Jerez - Ángel Nieto: Race 09-03-2020
After a whole weekend showing a great level performance in which, she dominated all the sessions except for the second timed training, Paquita Ruiz won her rivals yesterday in the first race of the Yamaha R6 Cup played in the Circuit of Jerez-Angel Nieto. Xavier Denis and Alberto Urquijo accompanied Ruiz on the general podium after a great performance.
The weekend began with Paquita Ruiz in great physical conditions, positioning herself as the clearest candidate for victory since the first timed training. Precisely the time marked in that session helped the Levantine pilot to win the Midland Pole and leave from the first grid position. However, her main rivals were not going to make it easy for her, with Antonio Carpe, Xavier Denis - who got the Pole in Master taking the official Yamaha chair as a prize - and Mihail Florov getting very close to her time in the second timed session.
Already on Sunday, it seemed that the duel between Ruiz, Florov and Carpe was going to put the excitement until the last moment, however Carpe and Florov's career was concluded on the seventh lap, when in their pursuit of Paquita Ruiz a technical failure on Antonio Carpe's motorcycle led him to collide with the Bulgarian rider, both going to the ground. From that moment on, Ruiz's career was more relaxed rolling alone until she crossed the finish line with a comfortable advantage over Xavier Denis and Alberto Urquijo, who took the podium with her, thus celebrating International Women's Day unbeatably and with the presence of those responsible for Michelin at the awards ceremony.
For his part, Juan José Fernández climbed to the top of the podium in the Master category after finishing fourth in the overall. The GV Racing team rider was accompanied by Raúl Torras and Freud González, who could not keep up with him but completed a good race progressing lap after lap. The pilots who also starred in a beautiful duel were Pedro Martínez and Rayad Al-Emadi, who crossed the finish line in fifth and sixth place respectively.
This first race was also special for the two drivers of the Rookies category, Pedro Enrique del Bonillo Racing Team and Sergio Perera. In a weekend of constant learning and evolution, the two drivers fought for the victory of their category, which finally went to the very young Pedro Enrique, who also got the pole in his category and the Yamaha chair as a prize. Beside him on the podium were the representatives of Michelin and FUCHS SILKOLENE delivering the trophies and the prize for Enrique, a Michelin front tire.
After this first test of the year, the riders and teams participating in the Yamaha R6 Cup will have a new appointment with the competition on the weekend of April 4 and 5, date on which the second round of the season will be played in the Circuit from Navarra.
