Hydrogen: Alternative fuel for sustainable
heavy-duty applications
The mobility of the future requires new solutions – clean, efficient, and economical. Hydrogen-based heavy-duty applications are considered a highly attractive and sustainable technology for powertrains, especially in commercial vehicles and industrial applications.
Their introduction as a CO2-neutral technology is not only a technological advance, but also an absolute necessity in order to meet society's climate protection requirements while enabling economically viable solutions.
However, new technologies also place new demands on the applied components – especially on lubricants.

Pre-ignition
- Low activation energy of hydrogen promotes oil-induced pre-ignition
WATER HANDLING
- Stochiometric amounts of water in exhaust gas can lead to high content of water in oil
Corrosion & wear
- Influence of water/oil mixture on wear behavior
- Acidic water phase can cause corrosion issues
Sustainability
- FUCHS contribution to CO2-neutral mobility

The solution: FUCHS BluEV H2 ICE 10W-30
With the new FUCHS BluEV H2 ICE 10W-30, FUCHS is launching the first heavy-duty engine oil specifically developed for hydrogen internal combustion engines with exhaust aftertreatment – an important step toward CO2-neutral drive solutions.
The new additive technology in FUCHS BluEV H2 ICE 10W-30 offers maximum performance to meet the special requirements of hydrogen combustion, such as pre-ignition, water ingress into the engine oil, and corrosion protection. Improved engine performance and robustness are ensured by engine oil technology adapted to hydrogen operation.
Benefits at a glance:
- Prevents oil-related pre-ignition
- Excellent protection against high water ingress into the engine oil
- Excellent corrosion and wear protection
