Description
THERMISOL QZS 150 MM was developed as an alternative to quenching oils with low viscosity for sectors with high safety and hygiene requirements. THERMISOL QZS 150 MM provides, depending on the concentration, a variably strong film on the material surface which attenuates the cooling intensity of pure water or rather controls the heat dissipation of the material. THERMISOL QZS 150 MM has a low grade of foam and a high thermal resistance. THERMISOL QZS 150 MM does not contain any nitrite or phenol and complies with the specifications of TRGS 611. THERMISOL QZS 150 MM is free of bactericides.
Application
THERMISOL QZS 150 MM is particularly suitable for quenching in open baths, inter alia for unalloyed and low-alloyed steels (e.g. machining steel and casehardened steel) and tempering of forgings and semifinished parts. THERMISOL QZS 150 MM is typically used in concentrations of 4 – 20 %. For the temporary storage of the quenched parts an additional corrosion protection is recommended, e.g. ANTICORIT.

Monitoring and maintanance
The preparation of the quenchant should be done with clean mains water, also the re-filling. The optimal water hardness should lie between 10 and 20 °d. For the preparation, fill in mains water first; afterwards, slowly fill in THERMISOL QZS 150 MM while recirculation is turned on. The inspection of the concentration of the quenchant is done by handheld refractometer, for example. The optimized concentration for application should be determined by pretests because several parameters influence the quenching process, such as - the method of the quenching - the hardenability of the steel - the process of heating - the bath temperature or rather the temperatures of the quenchant - the mode of circulation THERMISOL QZS 150 MM should be applied in a temperature range between 20 °C and 40 °C (max. 60 °C) to achieve constant hardening results. The contamination with e.g. hydraulic oils, metal working fluids, scales, corrosion protection oils and cleaning agents should be avoided because this influences the quenching properties, or rather the durability. The contamination limit for undissolved substances should not exceed 0.1 %. Under certain circumstances a band filter and a magnetic filter can be applied.
