Unprotected bare metal surfaces lose corrosion, in particular oxidation, which often produces a considerable amount of work surface condition.This is not only a deterioration of the appearance, but often also an impairment of proper function connected.
The extent of corrosion depends essentially on:
- the composition and pretreatment of the materials (particularly corrosive, e.g. malleable or gray cast iron)
- the surface quality of the workpiece (corrosive attack is faster on rough surfaces than on smooth surfaces)
