GLYCENT 46

Water Glycol Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid

Description

GLYCENT 46 is a specially developed water glycol combination which meets the requirements of fire resistance and covers different viscosity ranges. GLYCENT 46 water glycol hydraulic fluid as well as providing optimum fire resistance, also contains the necessary lubricating characteristics so vital to long pump life and efficient system performance.

An analysis of the performance of GLYCENT 46 in actual systems indicates its superior performance in preventing pump wear under high pressure due to the incorporation of special anti-wear additives. In this respect, this product stands out as a long-needed improvement over conventional "low pressure" fire resistant hydraulic fluids. GLYCENT 46 is environmentally acceptable with excellent biodegradability.

GLYCENT 46 meets CSA - US Steel, Factory Mutual and British Coal Fire Resistant Fluid requirements.

Shear Stability

GLYCENT 46 is completely stable to shear such as would normally occur in hydraulic fluid pump service. Results of mechanical shear performance in actual pump units and testing with sonic shear equipment show negligible viscosity loss due to shearing action.

Corrosion Protection

GLYCENT 46 contains special additive components to improve corrosion protection in both the liquid and vapor phases. Results of laboratory corrosion tests indicate satisfactory corrosion protection to aluminum, copper, brass, cast iron, steel, and solder. Field performance shows negligible corrosion to the metals commonly employed in hydraulic systems.

Advantages

  • Unsurpassed wear protection for hydraulic components
  • Excellent corrosion protection (both liquid and vapor phase) to the metals commonly used in hydraulic systems
  • Readily Biodegradable
  • Superb viscosity-temperature properties combined with an extremely low pour point. Because of this factor, these products are sufficiently fluid at low temperatures to prevent start-up pump wear problems commonly caused by fluids with poor viscosity temperature characteristics
  • Good oil separation in systems containing oil contamination
  • Compatibility with most conventional seal materials
  • Compatibility with other competitive high quality glycol-water type fluids.

How to Use

GLYCENT 46 is used as received. Your local FUCHS representative can provide you with specific recommendations for your operation. The product should be stored in its original sealed container at temperatures between 7ºC and 32ºC.

Safety data sheets are available. Before handling, read the product information and safety data sheets for proper handling and health hazard information.

Lubricity Characteristics

A high level of anti-wear protection is included in the formulation. GLYCENT 46 is very unique since it has the ability to provide adequate performance under the high pressure pump conditions currently found in many industrial hydraulic systems.

Compatibility with Other Fluids

GLYCENT 46 is compatible with other good quality water glycol type fire resistant fluids and may be added as make up to systems containing these fluids without deleterious effects.

Seal Compatibility

Water-glycol fire resistant fluids are compatible with most synthetic and natural rubber materials including butadiene-acrylonitrile, otherwise known as nitrile or Buna N (NBR), natural rubber (NR), styrene-butadiene (SBR), and silicone rubber (MVQ). Buna N must be as high in acrylonitrile as possible. Butyl rubber can be used up to 70°C only. Polyurethane, polyamide, asbestos, leather and cork cannot be used as hose and seal materials as they absorb water.

Paints

Water Glycol Fluids are incompatible with conventional industrial paints. Therefore when converting a system to GLYCENT 46, all internal paint known to be incompatible with water glycol should first be removed and the surface either left unpainted or painted with a compatible paint.

Pipe Joint Compounds

GLYCENT 46 may dissolve certain pipe dopes. Use only those pipe joints compatible with water glycol fire resistant fluids.

Fire Resistance

Water content in GLYCENT 46 should never be allowed to drop below 32% by volume if adequate fire resistance is to be maintained.

Applications

Applications for these fluids include die casting service, steel mill operations, mining, power transmissions, hydraulic systems in environmentally sensitive areas, and any other hydraulic systems where the need for a fire-resistant hydraulic fluid of the water glycol type is required.
