FUCHS Automotive Exterior Greases: Lubrication Solutions for Window Regulator Sticking and Wiper Noise

Automotive exteriors endure long-term sun and rain exposure, making problems such as window regulator sticking, window glass lifting noise, wiper operation noise, and wiper linkage sticking highly likely — degrading the driving experience, accelerating component wear, and increasing after-sales costs for OEMs.

FUCHS has nearly a hundred years of accumulated lubrication technology. Relying on IATF 16949-certified production lines, and targeting the four major exterior friction points — window regulators, wiper systems, door locks, and mirror adjustment mechanisms — FUCHS has built a dedicated grease product portfolio that provides lubrication solutions for window and wiper noise and sticking problems, offering long-term supply solutions for OEMs and component suppliers.

I. Common Causes of Window Regulator Sticking, Window Glass Lifting Noise, and Wiper Noise

1. Window Regulator Sticking and Window Glass Lifting Noise

The window regulator mechanism forms a metal-plastic-rubber composite friction pair consisting of metal rails, plastic sliders, and rubber guide channels. Exposed to the outdoors for long periods, it endures large temperature swings and easily accumulates sand and mud, while the grease comes into direct contact with door paint and rubber seals. Sand and mud increase sliding friction resistance, causing window regulator sticking; sustained abnormal friction in the friction pair produces abnormal noise; and in cold winter temperatures, ordinary greases easily harden and fail — not only obstructing lifting, but rail rust further increases the motor's operating load.

Conventional greases have clear shortcomings: poor compatibility with rubber and automotive paint, easily causing plastic parts to swell and paint to whiten; and insufficient temperature stability — they tend to bleed oil and fling off under high and low temperatures, making long-lasting lubrication protection difficult.

2. Wiper Operation Noise and Wiper Linkage Sticking

The wiper linkage mechanism and wiper motor gears move back and forth continuously, directly exposed to rain wash and scorching sun for long periods — a humid condition with large temperature fluctuations. Once the grease is lost, metal grinds dry against metal, producing wiper operation noise; when rust and sticking become severe, they directly cause wiper linkage sticking and mechanism stoppage; and intensified gear wear degrades the vehicle's NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance.

Ordinary greases have weak resistance to water washout, so rain easily washes them away; with insufficient high- and low-temperature endurance, they easily oxidize and fail at high temperatures and solidify at low temperatures — unable to provide continuous lubrication or suppress friction noise.

II. FUCHS Dedicated Exterior Grease Products: Targeted Solutions for Noise and Sticking

Automotive exterior conditions are complex. A qualified dedicated grease must simultaneously meet five core performance indicators: stable adaptation across a wide temperature range, long-lasting water and rust resistance, compatibility with plastics and automotive paint, durable noise reduction, and maintenance-free lubrication over the vehicle's entire life cycle. General-purpose lubrication products on the market offer single-dimensional performance and can hardly meet all these requirements at once. FUCHS dedicated automotive exterior greases are developed against the pain points of applications such as windows and wipers — a one-stop solution for all kinds of noise and sticking problems.

1. Greases dedicated to window regulators, helping alleviate window regulator sticking and noise

  • RENOLIT W 2 / RENOLIT B EP 2: synthetic lithium-based greases, resistant to high and low temperatures, strongly adhesive, waterproof — non-corrosive to rubber and paint, durably suppressing window glass lifting noise and alleviating window regulator sticking

  • RENOLIT WTF 2: low-friction long-lasting grease, wear-resistant and ice-preventing

  • RENOCAL FN 745/94: quiet plastic-specific grease, wear-resistant, dust-resistant, and ice-preventing — fits lifting sliders and can also be used for door locks and mirrors, simplifying inventory

  • RENOLIT CX-TOM 15: operating temperature -40 ℃ to 160 ℃, low starting torque at low temperatures, excellent mechanical and thermal stability, water-resistant and corrosion-proof — durably withstands rain and snow, preventing winter freezing and sticking

2. Greases dedicated to wiper systems, solving wiper operation noise and linkage sticking

  • RENOLIT B EP 2: fits every lubrication point of the wiper system, with good compatibility with plastics and rubber — water-resistant, rust-preventive, and dust-resistant, helping reduce the risk of wiper linkage sticking and low-speed wiping noise

  • RENOLIT W 2: semi-synthetic lithium-based grease, strongly adhesive and resistant to rain washout — stable across a wide temperature range, with excellent wear and dust resistance, durably suppressing oscillation judder noise; also compatible with matching rubber boots and plastic bushings, and can be shared with the window regulator system, streamlining grease variety

3. Lubrication Products for Door Locks and Mirrors

For door locks: RENOCAL FN 745/94, RENOLIT H 630, RENOLIT WTF 2, RENOLIT SF 3-078, and RENOLIT ST-CM 2; for mirror adjustment mechanisms: RENOLIT CX-FO 20 and RENOCAL FN 745/94 — reducing additional noise from vibration transmission.

Window regulator sticking, window glass lifting noise, wiper operation noise, and wiper linkage sticking continuously wear down components, affect the driving experience, and damage automakers' reputations.
