RENOLIN EP SERIES

Industrial Enclosed Gear Lubricants - Sulfur Phosphorus EP Treated

Description

In recent times, the trend towards gear unit manufacture has been to provide higher capacity power transmission from smaller, more compact gearbox units. This has resulted in higher unit loads and increased operational temperatures. This trend, together with the current awareness of pollution control, health and safety at work and other ecological considerations, has resulted in a desire to improve existing gear oil products to meet the requirements of the industrialist, ecologist and conservationist.

For these reasons, the use of improved formulation sulfur phosphorus gear oils is now becoming more wide-spread since the additives used in the manufacture of this type of gear oil are now accepted to be universal in application without any of the inherent disadvantages of the metallic-soap additive treated gear oils. The sulfur phosphorus additives used in RENOLIN EP Series gear oils are able to meet and exceed the requirements of industrial gear unit manufacturers. This has been achieved by the use of carefully balanced and formulated, sulfur phosphorus gear oils which do not produce staining problems on non-ferrous metals which was generally associated with early generation "free-sulfur" gear oil types.

Advantages

  • Can operate at temperatures in excess of 95°C without precipitation of heavy sludge or metallic soaps
  • Excellent load carrying capacity at high operating temperatures and superior anti- wear characteristics over other conventional EP gear oils
  • Good demulsibility characteristics important where rapid separation from process water is required.
  • Sulfur phosphorus additives are unaffected by water, thus no resultant additive depletion due to hydrolysis by water contamination.
  • Better viscosity control in service due to superior oxidation and thermal stability.
  • Addition of "top-up" oil to existing systems will not produce any undesirable side effects such as increased sludge or metallic soap deposition. Thus sulfur phosphorus gear oil may be added to existing gear oil systems.
  • Increased service life due to all of the above factors and thus resultant lower applied costs.
  • Balanced anti-corrosion inhibition for both ferrous and non-ferrous materials thus enabling use for a wide variety of gearbox application including norm reduction units, thereby assisting in rationalization of grades

Applications

RENOLIN EP Series gear oils are recommended for all industrial gear applications. Highly-stressed bearings, joints, pressure spindles, spur and worm drive gears are reliably, effectively and economically lubricated at temperatures of up to 120°C. The use of these oils ensures the quiet and smooth running of machinery along with optimum operational reliability. The use of these oils also allows the drain intervals to be extended.
