Motorsport Round-up: Kershaw Racing Crowned Sidecar Champions
Kershaw Racing crowned sidecar champs
FUCHS Silkolene-backed Kershaw Racing have been crowned British F1 Sidecar champions after another sensational weekend at Cadwell.
An amazing season by rider Steve Kershaw and passenger Stuart Clark has seen the pair storm to the top of the table with an enormous lead.
It was just a matter of time until they were mathematically confirmed as champions – and that moment came on the weekend, with two rounds to spare.
Kershaw and Clark romped to pole position in qualifying, beating the existing lap record in the process.
And the title was assured in race one when a coming together between Todd Ellis and Ricky Stevens opened the path for Kershaw/Clark to ease home in top spot.
Race two was a tough affair and it wasn’t until halfway through that Kershaw and Clark found the front to take their 16thvictory of the season.
Beaumont still number one
There was more FUCHS Silkolene excitement in Falmouth, where Scott Beaumont retained the British Cycling 4X National Championship - and won the Schwalbe British 4X Series round five.
Despite just turning 40, Beaumont showed his class and experience at the Falmouth 4X track, admitting afterwards the weekend’s excursions had gone even better than he anticipated.
“I’m really buzzing,” said Beaumont. “I had goals coming into the weekend, like everyone, but I didn’t expect to hit them all, it’s been great.”
Haslam ties down Showdown place at Cadwell
The British Superbike Championship Showdown picture is becoming clearer after the latest round at Cadwell Park on the weekend.
FUCHS Silkolene-backed Leon Haslam confirmed his place in the top six with a double win at the Lincolnshire circuit.
Also flying the Silkolene flag were Irwin brothers Glenn and Andrew. The PBM BeWiser Ducati team-mates had a mixed weekend with Glenn satisfied with P4 and P5, while Andrew says he will “press the reset button” ahead of Silverstone after failing to finish either race.
Glenn is currently third in the championship standings.
Peter Hickman of the Smiths Racing BMW team, meanwhile, is sixth in the championship with a bit of work still to do after picking up decent points for finishing seventh and fourth.
Freddie’s karting progression continues
Karting king Freddie Housley continued his journey up against the older lads as he travelled to Shenington.
Up against a grid of 32 top racers, Freddie finished heat one in 23rdbefore getting pushed off the circuit in heat two, rejoining the race and finishing in 25thafter some daring overtakes.
Freddie started 26thin heat three and made up some positions to finish 20th, putting him 23rdon the grid for the final.
Now getting more aggressive and confident, he recorded his personal best lap time in the final and crossed the line 21st - even getting a contact warning for diving under a driver whilst rubbing tyres together!
Freddie heads to Rowrah this weekend for an NKF round.
Tim Neave sets new fastest time at Cadwell
Also on two wheels, Tim Neave enjoyed his home round at Cadwell Park in the Dickies British Supersport Championship.
Neave finished the feature race in ninth position and set his new fastest time around the circuit.
“There are many positives to take from the weekend and I look forward to bridging the gap to the front at Silverstone in two weeks’ time,” he said.
Weekend to forget for South Coast Honda Racing
Aidan Wigger headed to Hawkstone Park for the seventh round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.
Unfortunately, for him and the team, it was a weekend to forget with bad luck striking at every possible opportunity. From small mechanical issues to crashes, the weekend tested rider, team and machine to the max.
The team must learn from the experience and move on to the next event stronger.
Paige and Drew return to Lydden Hill
The next round of the British Rallycross will be held at the Lydden Hill rallycross circuit in Kent on Bank Holiday Monday.
Paige and Drew Bellerby are looking forward to the event after their double podium at the last round held at Croft Circuit in County Durham.
Paige is looking forward to getting better acquainted with her refurbished Lotus Exige; “I was surprised a bit last time about how much different the driving characteristics were with the new engine, but I improved through the day at Croft, in spite of the weather, and I’m hoping to continue making improvements this weekend”.

CA1 Sport pleased with third place
The CA1 Sport crew of David Bogie and John Rowan (Skoda Fabia R5) were delighted with their third place after 11 demanding stages on the bumpy, twisting roads of Ulster last weekend on the third round of the British Rally Championship.
The duo were fifth at the end of the first leg on Friday, but were able to maintain a fierce pace on the Saturday legs to finish in a fine third place.
The pair are now each placed second in their respective Driver and Co-driver categories in the British Championship. More information for the championship can be found at https://www.msabrc.com.
Success in Honda championships for RB Motorsport
RBMotorsport enjoyed a successful weekend in the DREAM - Honda VTEC Challenge at Snetterton.
Our man Rob Burkinshaw got a good start in race one but lost a place to Jeff Cooper on the big straight on lap one.
He forced his way back to second and was on the leader’s boot lid all the way, finishing just 0.5secs behind at the flag.
Race two was even better for Rob, who went into the lead into Coram just as Steve Sawley started to have electrical issues. He saw out the race for a big win – and a series lap record.
And finally…
Driver of the weekend in the second Inter-Service Championship round at Cosford Karting Club went to David Russell, who gave a startling performance.

Team testimonials.
“A quality team with quality bikes needs a quality product”
Paul Bird, PBM Team Owner
“The GT40 has once again been running a full FUCHS package and has performed faultlessly with no DNF’s or technical issues. Over the last two years, FUCHS products had improved the cars performance and reliability.”
Lee Bowd, JDM Racing Chief Mechanic
“The reliability of the engine has been great and FUCHS have given me an oil that I can rely on. The performances in the latter part of the season have been due to my confidence in the car meaning I can push harder into each corner without worrying about the engine.”
Owen Loydall, Autograss Driver
"This year we have made major improvements to our race car including a new high spec engine, something that’s been in development over the past few years. After extensive testing there is only one oil we would trust with this.... FUCHS TITAN. Having used the Fuchs engine oil, CV Grease and gearbox oil for the last 6 years, we wouldn’t use anything else."
